The Avenue

I went to The Avenue one night with my mom and my sister. It was dark, and I got to see some of the nice people that hang out and walk around. One of the stores we passed had flashing signs, so little circles of light would move across the ground. As my mom, sister and I were about to walk into a store, a group of friends walking three dogs pass us. The dogs start jumping up and down at seeing the flashing lights, and they hopped on the dots thinking they could catch the light. I noticed that at the same time that this was happening, four other people, one of which was my sister, completely stopped what they were doing to watch the dogs jump around. I thought it was so interesting to see all these people, who don’t know each other or have anything in common, all stop and do the same thing. At the same time, I admire the innocence, and ignorance of the animals. The three dogs are so un-knowing, yet it pleases everyone. They do not understand that they cannot actually capture the light they see on the ground, but no one stops them because it’s so entertaining. I wonder why the light intrigues the dogs, and why they feel the need to “catch” it, or even why they were all hopping around. I was one of the four stupefied people for a short period of time, so I guess I can’t answer the questions myself, but it was an enjoyable experience nonetheless.
