Fighter: Christina Aguilera

The lyrics to this song leave a powerful message. It already sends a pretty strong message out of context, but it became so much more powerful when I found out she actually dedicated this song to her dad. In the song Fighter, Christina shows so much strength. Not only because of what we learn that she had to deal with in her life with her father, but because she does not hate him. Anyone would think that only hatred would be bottled up inside after living through the pain she did, but she turns it around completely. She isn’t complaining, or wishing her life had been different. She is thanking her father for being so horrible to her. Christina is being the bigger person, and saying that she is who she is because of him; a strong, unyielding woman. This message is so powerful to me because there are people out there that think less of themselves when a simple stranger says something offensive, but not Christina. Christina Aguilera shows how no one should make you less; she sends the message: those who knock you down should be the reason you stand back up. You are powerful, have thick skin, and no one can mess with you.
