In The Raft of the Medusa by Theodore Gericault, he paints a very dark and ominous painting that shows possibly the sinking of a raft or perhaps the last remains of a sinking ship and its survivors. Once again we see the theme of the domination of Mother Nature over man and his escapades. The sky is also a big feature to this painting as it is vast and expansive, drawing a lot of attention to itself. The dark clouds and the dark sky contribute to the fact and the feeling of dread that is invoked inside the viewer.
